Offerings to the Spirit World | by Ann Mason
Offerings to the Spirit World | by Ann Mason
Offerings to the Spirit World contains images depicting a universal attitude of benevolent intention to honor cultural traditions and interact with the spiritual realm. This important monograph of Ann's work visually demonstrates the power of photography to reveal concealed beauty that uplifts, and to engender empathy for others via understanding between peoples of different cultures. This message is conveyed via illustrations focusing on acts of reverential giving to deities or ancestors in the diverse cultures of twenty-five countries around the world. This global perspective reflects today’s diversity of cultures and highlights universal human concerns as a basis for tolerance.
The photographs within were made by Ann Mason with a 5 x 7 Deardorff view camera from 2009 to 2019. Prior to this project, Ann Mason was active in producing photographic art beginning back in the 1970s.
